This type of insulator contains porcelain discs that are connected via metal links to form strings. It is embedded in high voltage towers.   1. Strain insulators  

The manufacturers design the strain insulator to handle various mechanical stresses at different angles whenever there is a directional change in the lines. High voltage lines with a longer span and greater loading allow the operatives to arrange the insulator strings into a horizontal position. In those instances where a single string is not sufficient for high load-bearing capacity, they deploy two or more strings in parallel. This enables high conductor tension.
