Transformer Bushings Manufacturer in India

An Overview of Transformer Bushings and Its Mechanism

The transformer bushing is equipment utilised to test whether the transformers are operating efficiently and correctly. While the most common type of testing is oil testing, you can implement the electrical testing method to get precise results. You can purchase premium quality transformer bushings from the reputable Transformer Bushings Manufacturer in India for product assurance.

What is a Transformer Bushing?

The transformer Bushing is a kind of insulating structure that forms the passage for current-carrying, energised conductors through the grounded tank of the transformer. Either the conductor is built into the bushing, like a bottom centred one, or drawing in a separate conductor through the centre. This can be a draw lead or draw rod bushing.

Types of Transformer Bushings

Transformer Bushings usually have two principles, a solid/bulk type and capacitance graded bushing. The latter is also known as the condenser type.

The manufacturers make solid bulk bushings using porcelain or epoxy insulators. You can mainly utilise this for low voltage windings of the transformer. On the other hand, capacitance graded bushings are designed for high voltage ratings and high voltage windings.

The failure of transformer bushings is considered a leading cause of transformer failure. Hence, the transformer asset owners must consider its quality. There is typical bushing failure because of moisture ingress, lightning strikes, misapplications, corrosive sulphur, broken connections, etc.

Why Should You Test the Transformer?

Routine electrical testing is mandatory, and you should perform it every 3-5 years for the utility companies. For electrical testing, you need to de-energise the unit and isolate it to perform complicated processes. There are several reasons why performing electrical testing of the transformer is essential.

  1. Acceptance Testing.
  2. Bringing the Transformer Out of Storage
  3. After the Transformer Trips Offline
  4. Verification of the Oil Test that is unacceptable

Transformer Bushings Maintenance

  • Cleaning

Before testing, you should clean them of the dust, impurities and dirt particles. You can administer a simple bushing cleaning method – elbow grease and soft rags. If the bushings are dirty, cleaning with solvents is also helpful. Other methods are pressure water washing with CO2 and more.

  • Visual Inspection

Check the bushings for cracks and other damages. If the damage is severe, the current leakage can become excessive, showing carbon trackings on the surface. Flashovers can also occur if you do not clean these bushings periodically.

  • Thermographic inspection

You can also inspect high voltage bushings with infrared cameras to check loose connections.
